Books
Current books I am reading. A novel and a graphic novel, both by Neil Gaiman (Signal to Noise illustrated by Dave McKean). If you are into weird, dark, deep, and very intriguing reads, check them out!

Today
Today: Spun these two new additions of my record collection, courtesy of a little birdie over at Numero Group, Chicago. Top two photos, Antena's Camino Del Sol. The third photo, Orquestra La Justicia's Salsa Con Nostalgia.
Later, my girl, Erica, came over (visiting home from Kansas City), and we made carrot/tahini/chickpea soup and garlic bread for our lunch. VERY GOOD and very simple. Check the recipe from Smitten Kitchen here.

Crazy ass snowstorm is here! Animals are being weird! Nursing cans of Budweiser! Wondering, "What the hell is living about"! Thinking, "I drink too much beer" and then, "No such thing as too much beer'"! Doing an exit interview for financial aid and not feeling ready to face student loan payments! Weee!

Bat For Lashes - Lillies
Big fan of Bat for Lashes! Her first album, Fur and Gold, reminds me specifically of sitting in my car every weekday morning during my first semester of senior year in high school, 5:10 a.m., awaiting volleyball practice. I'd stay cuddled in a blanket I always had with me and would stare at the deep black and blue sky. "Lillies" is from her third album, The Haunted Man.
Today is a GOOD day. Very sunny and productive for me, despite a disruptive start to the morning: a quietly beeping smoke alarm stayed constant for a good 3-4 hours (something I failed to awake up for, but instead acknowledged only in dreaming, where I was roaming a house and unable to find where the beep was coming from.) Woke up feeling very woozy, my body pillow over my head for sound protection, even though the pillow is normally scrunched between my bed and window to keep out the draft. Since my dad was already at work, I climbed into bed alongside my mom to cuddle.
Shout-out to my girl, Bryn, on her birthday today!!!!! Check out her tumblr, Criminally Y.A., here.

Sunday
Good 'ay on this chilly and sunny Sun'ay! Here: drinking a Sam Adams White Christmas ale (nothing like holiday party booze overflow!) and the Blackhawks just scored against the LA Kings. The mozzarella stix are in the oven.
It's been a great weekend of getting stuff done and having fun. On Friday I drank homemade apple pie liquor while hiking the Mines of Spain in Dubuque. On Saturday I helped my dad with some yard work, watched my ***adopted*** cat, Milou, run crazily around the backyard and up trees after squirrels, saw Silver Linings Playbook, and joined my parents and their friends for a trivia night at a church a few towns over.
Highlights of trivia night: Furthering my team from questions regarding The Simpsons and Jay-Z • Eating walking tacos • Being among only one other (a nine-year old squirrely girl with crimped hair) to sit down during a process of elimination, the elimination statement being "sit down if you listen to Justin Bieber"... Have to be an honest contestant when you're a first timer (especially within a church group, of course!) • And talking to an 83 year-old man who once met Ernest Hemingway at a bull fight in Barcelona. He told me they remained in contact for a short time through letters and that Hemingway once visited him at his Dubuque home. Talk about a good evening with some good people.
So now after a successful morning serving breakfast, I feel very relaxed and await the coming week... one which includes birthdays of three of my closest friends, substitute teaching, and reading a lot.

Above, a photo taken by my Ann Arbor pen pal, Emily, of a hanging piece I made for her. Circular frames laser-cut by my dad and connected by wire S hooks. One side of each frame includes a personalized painting done by moi and the other includes other paper design/imagery. Hang it on your wall, in front of a window, in a corner, wherever. Would you like one? Would you like to do a creative exchange of some sort, i.e. making music mixes, writing short stories, sharing anything and everything? If so, email me at Sogaard.Kirsten@gmail.com.

Lastly, this fantastic song played in the kitchen at work today, and I can't get it out of my head... so HERE! YOU get it in your head now!

A song that brings me back to driving through the Montana mountains last summer.
This came on the radio as I drove home from work this afternoon, just as it did after last Sunday's shift! On that day though, it was snowing heavily, so I stopped at the Country club to do donuts in the parking lot. Beautifully, the first donut spun right as the song hits its 0:55 mark. Today it rained heavily and the gray/browns of the snow's underbelly have been revealed.
Lastly, reading this book has turned me upside down in very necessary ways:
