It's easy to convince yourself
that you're feeling lonely
when you're the only human at home
for eight consecutive hours
But as I work at my desk,
separated, in my own mind-world,
a cat sneezes behind me
and I look back, saying "bless you",
to see his softball head swivel to the side
as birds pass by the window, he watches,
And I realize I am not alone
that you're feeling lonely
when you're the only human at home
for eight consecutive hours
But as I work at my desk,
separated, in my own mind-world,
a cat sneezes behind me
and I look back, saying "bless you",
to see his softball head swivel to the side
as birds pass by the window, he watches,
And I realize I am not alone

Small(er) Spaces
I think I'll move to Berlin! This forest house is A-OK-Awesome with me. Been checking into small house living... something that I feel is right up my alley, especially after being exposed to this book:

Brian Dettmer
"Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed...by altering physical forms of information and shifting preconceived functions, new and unexpected roles emerge."

Anne Lamott
"...you can't get to any of these truths by sitting in a field smiling beatifically, avoiding your anger and damage and grief. Your anger and damage and grief are the way to the truth. We don't have much truth to express unless we have gone into those rooms and closets and woods and abysses that we were told not to go in to. When we have gone in and looked around for a long while, just breathing and finally taking it in--then we will be able to speak in our own voice and to stay in the present moment. And that moment is home."
- Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
End of a Week
Currently holding down the front desk at the newspaper my mom works at while the whole office gang is out for a meeting. Bring on the telephone calls and visitors!
Since I've graduated, I'll soon be subbing in the local district and hopefully doing some waitressing. In the meantime, I've been using my time wisely: watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, deer-watching/feeding, and buffing up via my parents' home-gym. This time has also spurred me to start painting again, so as you can see above, i'm finishing a piece I started last spring. I'm looking forward to sharing more paintings on here, and I see this as a motivation for me to keep getting my brushes out.
Also posted above are some treats I brought back from my grandma's after spending yesterday afternoon with her. She told me she's in a "get-rid-of-it-all" mode, so I took it upon myself to help her out. The necklaces and bowls were owned by my great-grandmothers and by my grandparents when they lived in KY, and the stationery/stickers by my aunts when they were little. It is an honor to now own these pieces, and I especially look forward to displaying the celery bowl on my future living room table.
Last thing: Now I know I have a weekly blog reader-ship of about 30 views, and who knows if one person is responsible for all these views (Katrina?!), but regardless, if you enjoy my bloggity blog or like viewing my content often, leave me a comment on this post whether I know you or not, and say hi. Share your blog address with me if you have one. And if you'd like to do a creative exchange of sorts (mail/email), let me know. I have a lot of time on my hands right now!

The Wind Tells About Waldemar Daa & His Daughters
When the wind sweeps across the grass, the field has a ripple like a pond, and when it sweeps across the corn the field waves to and fro like a sea. That is called the wind's dance;but hear it tell stories;it sings them out,and how different it sounds in the tree-tops in the forest, and throught the loopholes and clefts and cracks in walls! Do you see how the wind drives the clouds up yonder, like a flock of sheep? Do you hear how the wind howls do here through the open gate, like a watchman blow-in his horn? With wonderful tones he whistles and screams down the chimney and into the fireplace! The fire crackles and flares up, and shines far into the room, and the little place is warm and snug, and it is pleasant to sit there listening to the sounds.Let the Wind speak, for he knows plenty of stories and fairy tales, many more than are known to any of us.Just hear what the Wind can tell.

A Few Things
Above, you can see a little woodland paper cut-out I made as a Christmas gift. Really creates a beautiful silhouette in the window. I'm hoping to keep up the paper cutting and put my X-acto knife to good use!

A few friends and I spent New Year's in Chicago, so we ate lunch with my sister and bro-in-law at The Berghoff and then checked out the Art Institute and roamed around for 31/2 hours. Was my first time there! I was most amazed to see the work of van Gogh, Matisse, O. Louis Guglielmi, Peter Blume, and Jacob Lawrence. MMMmm!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY
